The Pilot's Log: A tribute to Captain Caneman.

I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had a lot of time for doing anything new here. One of the things I've been busy with is my flight training. I am finally going to finish what I stared ten years ago and get my Private Pilot's License. Today I took off on my first unsupervised solo flight.

The point of this is to build my confidence while flying alone.
Of course, there were quite a few goals I had to achieve; slow flight, steep turns, stalls, pattern flying, radio communication, etc. In the midst of all this I managed to find the time to make a little video of myself.
I should take this opportunity to mention a video I saw a couple of years back.

A pilot called "Captain Caneman" made a movie of himself flying a DC8 air freighter back up from Guatemala, into Miami. Personally I found the commentary of his experiences in the captain's seat to be rather amusing. Amusing enough, in fact, to inspire me to create my own take on it. I decided that, if I ever had half the chance, I would give it a shot. Today, I had that chance.

I knew the camera would not be able to pick up my voice over the noise from the engine. So I brought along my laptop, which I plugged into the plane's intercom. Then, with a little help from Cool Edit, and some work on Movie Maker, I had my own personal piloting video. I admit I don't think mine is as funny as Caneman's, but I think all my friends should enjoy it.

Now at least, they'll know I not full of crap when I talk about flying. ;-)
